Words have the power to change lives.
With a single word we have the power to change the lives of those around us, do more for good, and completely alter the course of human events. That being said, your personal testimony is so much more powerful than you could ever imagine. It can be hard to open up but it can also be so incredibly rewarding and freeing.
How often have you been lifted up by the story of the trials and tribulations of another? How often have you wished to find someone that has been through what you have been through? Sharing personal testimony helps to guide others in their time of strife, to help them through difficult times that they might not feel like they can handle, and to inspire them to do more and to persevere.
Personal testimony also has the ability to free our own minds and spirits from things that we may have been struggling with. Keeping things inside, keeping your story to yourself has the potential to cause turmoil within yourself. Sharing that story can inspire others, free your own mind, and make way for positive growth and learning on both parts.
I have spent many years sharing my testimony of divorce. During those years I found that sharing my testimony gave hope to other women while helping me on my journey of healing. I will be honest there were days that I felt my testimony was not worth sharing with anyone. Those days I always ran into at least one person who wanted to hear my story. I often I would say to myself "if I reach at least one it was worth it," never realizing that testimonies have a contagious ripple effect by nature and rarely just help one person when you begin writing your story.
Written testimony just like spoken testimony are such a blessing because they also have the ability to help those who are suffering. The only difference is the reach your written testimony may have. If you share your testimony verbally everyone within hearing distance will hear it. If you write your testimony your story can be heard all over the world with out you having to be there in person. It still gives me chills to think while I am asleep someone on the other side of the world may be encouraged by my written testimony. Even more amazing is the fact that I may never meet them yet I helped in planting a seed of hope in their life.
1 Peter 3:15 ESV says, “ But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” Your personal testimony has the power to be that defense and to plant your own hope in the hearts of others. We have been given such a great gift in our personal testimony and being able to share it might just be what you need to move on in your own journey and help those that might be struggling.
